In the Eastern and Southern Africa sub-region several Research Groups engaged in Materials Science and Solar Energy have had informal collaboration for over two decades. This collaboration has resulted in the participation in regional workshops and conferences, joint publications, joint supervision of postgraduate students, and sharing of research facilities among others.

To formalise these collaborations and to promote advanced research in the field of Materials Science and Solar Energy in this region, a Network known as Materials Science and Solar Energy for Eastern and Southern Africa (MSSEESA) of the research groups has been established. MSSEESA will act as a platform for strengthening the following activities: Sharing of research facilities; Joint offering of courses/programs; Student/staff exchange; Joint supervision of postgraduate students; Information exchange and provision; Organization of conferences, workshops, colleges, etc.

Founded in April, 2010, The Women’s Initiative in Education (NEWI) is an independent, non-partisan and non-profit National Non-Governmental Organization operating in Kenya with its head office in Nairobi. NEWI partners with different emergency, recovery and developmental actors, donors and Government Ministries to implement integrated community based interventions in quest to alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life among the most vulnerable and underserved communities including victims of natural disasters and extreme exclusion from basic services, victims of gender-based violence, underserved victims of HIV/AIDS and those with special protection needs including women, children and the elderly. Core among NEWI’s competencies is conducting evidence-based research and advocacy in order to influence government and other humanitarian policies. NEWI’s core areas of intervention include enterprise promotion, food security, livelihoods, nutrition, health, WASH, education, child protection, and prevention of gender based violence, peace building, economic empowerment, environmental conservation and advocacy.

NSSC was established and officially launched on 1st November, 2012 as a partnership between Johnson & Johnson, University of Nairobi and Phillips Healthcare Technologies Ltd aimed at delivering continuing medical education for healtchcare professionals in East, Central as well as the rest of sub-Saharan Africa .

The Peace and Development Researchers Association (PADRA) brings together Africa Peacebuilding Network and The Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (APN/NextGen) grantees of Kenyan origin to engage in an interactive dialogue on security, peacebuilding and development in Africa generally and Kenya in particular. PADRA aims to spur stimulating and insightful intellectual discourse among Kenyan scholars and practitioners and to develop research expertise capable of contributing to and shaping national, regional, and global scholarly discourses and practices.
